INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY IN ISLAMIC EDUCATION LEARNING FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD
Abstract
This research stems from the limited research on the comprehensive use of interactive technology in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) for early childhood in Indonesia. Yet, technology plays a crucial role in shaping the character, cognition, and spirituality of the digital native generation. The aim of this study is to explore the implementation of interactive technology in Islamic Religious Education learning, its impact on children's learning engagement and understanding of religious concepts, as well as the role of teachers and the challenges faced. The approach used was qualitative with a multi-case study design in four Islamic PAUDs in Yogyakarta, selected purposively based on the active use of digital technology. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with eight teachers and four principals, and analysis of curriculum documents and digital materials. Thematic analysis techniques were used to identify key patterns. The results show that media such as educational applications, religious animations, and digital whiteboards can increase children's motivation and participation. Abstract concepts such as the nature of God, angels, and the afterlife become easier to understand. Success is greatly influenced by the creativity of the teacher as a facilitator. Key challenges include the digital competency gap, potential distractions, and the need to filter content according to Islamic values and children's developmental stages. The conclusions indicate that interactive technology is an effective tool but does not replace the role of teachers. This research contributes to the development of digital Islamic pedagogy and recommends teacher training, quality content development, and safe and educational technology integration policies.
