Article Withdrawal

Article Withdrawal Policy of the Journal of Islamic Economics

The Journal of Islamic Economics is committed to publishing high-quality, original, and ethical research. While we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, the withdrawal of a manuscript after submission, especially during the peer review process or after acceptance, can significantly disrupt the publication workflow, waste valuable resources, and potentially damage the integrity of the scholarly record. Therefore, we have a clear and strict policy regarding article withdrawals.

Principles of Our Withdrawal Policy

Our policy is built on the following principles:

  1. Commitment to Publication: Once a manuscript has been submitted, authors are expected to honor their commitment to publication in the Journal of Islamic Economics, provided the manuscript successfully navigates the peer review process and meets the journal's standards.
  2. Minimizing Disruption: Unjustified withdrawals create significant administrative burdens for editors and reviewers, delaying the review of other submissions and misallocating resources.
  3. Maintaining Integrity: Arbitrary withdrawals, especially after peer review comments have been provided or acceptance has been granted, can be seen as an attempt to avoid addressing critical feedback or to publish elsewhere without proper justification.

Circumstances for Withdrawal Requests

We recognize that legitimate reasons for withdrawal may exist, though they are rare. Acceptable reasons typically include:

  • Serious Scientific Errors: The discovery of significant flaws in the data, methodology, or analysis that fundamentally undermine the validity of the findings and cannot be corrected through revision.
  • Ethical Concerns: Identification of serious ethical violations, such as undisclosed conflicts of interest, plagiarism, or data fabrication, that necessitate the removal of the manuscript.
  • Duplicate Submission: If a manuscript was inadvertently submitted to the Journal of Islamic Economics while simultaneously being under review or already published elsewhere. In such cases, the authors must immediately notify the journal.

Procedures for Article Withdrawal

  1. Formal Request: To request a manuscript withdrawal, the corresponding author must submit a formal, written request to the Editor-in-Chief via email. This request must clearly state the reason(s) for withdrawal and be signed by all authors of the manuscript. This ensures that all contributors are in agreement with the decision.
  2. Editorial Review: The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the editorial board, will review the withdrawal request. The validity and justification of the reasons provided will be carefully assessed.
  3. Withdrawal Approval/Denial:
    • Approved Withdrawal: If the withdrawal request is deemed legitimate and justifiable, the editor will approve it. The manuscript will then be officially removed from the publication process.
    • Denied Withdrawal: If the request is deemed unjustifiable, particularly after the manuscript has undergone peer review or been accepted, the editor may deny the request. In such cases, the authors will be expected to proceed with the publication process. If authors refuse to proceed without valid reasons, the journal reserves the right to notify their affiliated institutions about the breach of publication ethics.
  4. Withdrawal Penalty (if applicable): For unjustified withdrawal requests made during or after the peer review process, the Journal of Islamic Economics reserves the right to impose a penalty, such as a temporary ban on future submissions from the author(s).

Withdrawal of Published Articles

Once an article has been formally published in an issue of the Journal of Islamic Economics, it cannot be "withdrawn." Instead, if serious issues (e.g., scientific misconduct, severe ethical breaches, or fundamental errors that invalidate the research) are identified post-publication, the article may be formally retracted or an erratum/correction notice may be published. This process follows strict COPE guidelines to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record. A retraction notice will clearly state the reasons for the retraction and will be linked to the original article.

Our strict article withdrawal policy ensures that the Journal of Islamic Economics maintains its high standards of academic integrity and efficient scholarly communication. We encourage authors to carefully consider their submission before sending it to us.
