Publication Ethics

Publication Ethics of the Journal of Islamic Economics

The Journal of Islamic Economics is unwavering in its commitment to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. We believe that ethical conduct is fundamental to the integrity and credibility of academic research. All parties involved in the publishing process—authors, reviewers, and editors—are expected to adhere strictly to these ethical guidelines to ensure the reliability and trustworthiness of the scholarly record. Our ethical framework is largely informed by the principles set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

For Authors

Authors submitting to the Journal of Islamic Economics are expected to:

    • Originality and Plagiarism: Submit only original work. Plagiarism in all its forms, including self-plagiarism, is strictly prohibited. Authors must properly cite all sources used and acknowledge any work or words of others. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is also considered unethical and is not permitted.
    • Data Accuracy: Ensure that all data presented is accurate and genuinely represents the research conducted. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data is a serious breach of ethical conduct.
    • Authorship: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported research. All individuals who have made1 substantial contributions should be listed as co-authors. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its2 submission for publication.
  • Disclosure3 of Conflicts of Interest: Clearly disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.4 All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.
  • Timely and Accurate Corrections: Promptly notify the journal editors if they discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

For Reviewers

Reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and integrity of the scholarly publishing process. We expect reviewers to:

  • Confidentiality: Treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. They must not show or discuss them with others except as authorized by the editor.
  • Objectivity and Impartiality: Conduct reviews objectively and provide constructive criticism. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.5
  • Promptness: Respond to review invitations promptly and complete their reviews within the agreed timeframe. If unable to complete the review, they should notify the editor without delay.
  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Decline to review manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
  • Identification of Plagiarism: Alert the editor to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

For Editors

The editors of the Journal of Islamic Economics are responsible for maintaining the ethical standards of the journal. They are committed to:

  • Fair Play: Evaluate manuscripts solely on their intellectual merit without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief,6 ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.7
  • Confidentiality: Ensure the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and their content. They must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher.
  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Decline from considering manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
  • Decision Making: Base their publication decisions on the originality, importance, validity of the study, and its relevance to the journal's scope.
  • Investigation of Ethical Concerns: Take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred. In cases of alleged or proven scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication, or plagiarism,8 the editor, in conjunction with the publisher, will take all appropriate measures to clarify the situation and amend the article in question. This includes the prompt publication of an erratum, clarification,9 or even the retraction of10 the offending work.

By adhering to these ethical guidelines, the Journal of Islamic Economics aims to foster a transparent, trustworthy, and high-quality environment for scholarly communication in the field of Islamic economics.
