Our copyright and licensing policy is designed to ensure that authors retain significant rights over their work while enabling the widest possible access and reuse of published articles. This balance is crucial for fostering academic growth and ensuring that valuable research benefits the global community.
Copyright Ownership
Authors who submit and publish their manuscripts in the Journal of Islamic Economics retain the full copyright to their articles. This means that authors maintain the exclusive right to control the reproduction, distribution, public performance, and public display of their intellectual property. The journal firmly believes that authors should have control over their original creations, even as they contribute to the collective body of knowledge.
Publishing License Agreement
While authors retain copyright, by submitting their work to the Journal of Islamic Economics, they grant the journal a non-exclusive license to publish the article. This license permits the journal, through its publisher, Publisher Media Jaza Utama, to:
- Publish the article in all current and future forms and media, including print and electronic versions.
- Grant permission to third parties to use the article in accordance with the journal's open access policy and the specified Creative Commons license.
- Deposit the article in recognized scholarly databases, abstracting, and indexing services to ensure its maximum discoverability and accessibility.
This non-exclusive license allows the journal to fulfill its role as a publisher and disseminate the research effectively, without transferring ownership of the intellectual content from the authors.
Open Access and Creative Commons Licensing
To uphold our commitment to open access, all articles published in the Journal of Islamic Economics are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). This widely recognized open access license allows for substantial freedom in how the published work can be used and shared:
- Attribution (BY): Users are free to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, and to remix, transform, and build upon the material for1 any purpose, even commercially. However, they must give appropriate credit2 to the original author(s) and the Journal of Islamic Economics, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. This ensures proper recognition for the creators.
- ShareAlike (SA): If users remix, transform, or build upon the material, they must distribute their contributions under the same license as the original (CC BY-SA 4.0).3 This "share alike" condition ensures that any derivative works based on our published articles also remain open and accessible, promoting a continuous and expanding ecosystem of open knowledge.
This CC BY-SA 4.0 license ensures that research published in the Journal of Islamic Economics is freely accessible and reusable, fostering broader collaboration, accelerating scientific discovery, and increasing the impact of scholarly work in Islamic economics.
Author Rights and Responsibilities

- Deposit the final published PDF version of their article in institutional or disciplinary repositories, or on their personal websites, immediately upon publication.
- Use figures, tables, and other content from their articles in subsequent books, articles, or educational materials, with due acknowledgment.
Authors are also responsible for ensuring that their submitted manuscript does not infringe upon the copyright or other intellectual property rights of any third party. If the manuscript includes material from other copyrighted sources, authors must obtain the necessary permissions from the copyright holders before submission.
